First things first…
Are you allowed to light the candles at your wedding venue? I’d admit it, I’ve been around the wedding block a time or two, working with countless couples who bring their own candles for the big day. Now, don’t get me wrong—I’m all about snagging a great deal. But when your venue allows you to set the ambiance with candles, consider splurging just a bit. Wondering why? Well, let’s delve into the details.

Burn time…
Here’s a little secret about candles: not all are created equal. Some companies sneakily design their candles with a short burn time. Picture this: you start your evening with a beautifully lit atmosphere, only to find halfway through dinner, your candles call it quits, and the ambiance fades – just like that. When you’re on the hunt for the perfect candles, be sure to scrutinize the details on the packaging or website. Nothing’s more disappointing than investing in candles that flicker out in under an hour. You want your candles to stand the test of time, maintaining that consistent style throughout your entire wedding day.

Don’t be a drip…
Beware of bargain candles – they have a tendency to drip, and not just on themselves! Picture wax cascading onto your meticulously set tables, candlesticks, and worst of all, your guests. Not only does this create potential damage to holders and tables, but you might find yourself facing extra charges from the venue or supplier for clean up. Plus, let’s be real, drippy candles just don’t exude that elegant vibe you’re going for. Do yourself a favor: double-check the details, and opt for candles that proudly proclaim a ‘NO DRIP’ guarantee.

Do some testing…
While I completely understand the constraints of a wedding budget, it’s worth checking with your suppliers to explore the possibility of ordering candles through them. Many wedding stylists have valuable connections with top-notch candle providers, offering assistance in obtaining quotes and securing the perfect candles for your special day. However, if that doesn’t align with your vision, fear not. Conduct some trial runs at home by purchasing a small pack of your desired candles. Light them up and observe how they handle the flame. Keep in mind that candles can behave differently in various environments, especially when it’s warm or if air conditioning is in play. Consistency is key, so be mindful of these factors as you prepare for your big day.
Don’t forget…
Before diving into the candlelit dreams for your venue, take a moment to consult with them about their lighting regulations. While they may permit candles, they might specify that open flames must be shielded in glass cylinders. While not every venue insists on this, it’s a crucial detail to confirm. To streamline your candle-buying process, ask key questions upfront: Can candles be lit? What type of candle holders are recommended? Are glass cylinders or specific holders required? This proactive approach at the outset of your planning journey will save you from unnecessary back-and-forths on candle selection.
